Men’s Friendly: Cheltenham 15 – 3 Bath

Saturday 16th September 2017, Odd Down Sports Ground, Bath – Cheltenham’s  Men followed what was a sensational performance from the ladies team, and with a large crowd attending due to National Lacrosse Day, the pressure to perform well was on.

Luckily Cheltenham got out of the blocks quickly with Pete Smith winning the first face-off, in his new adopted role, and allowing Cougars to control the first possession. This also led to team captain, Elliot, scoring an early goal and leading by example.

As the 1st quarter progressed, it became somewhat of a stalemate with Bath hot on Cheltenham’s heels and drawing level to 3-3 just before the quarter whistle blew.

A close game continued as flurries of class from both teams took advantage of expected lapses of pre-season concentration and rusty stick mistakes.

However as Cougars continued to work hard in the final and 4th quarter, a small stretch in the score line final appeared, and a well deserved 15-3 win was earnt.
A solid performance from Cheltenham at times, but also a handy lesson in what is expected in the season to come. Back to the training ground to fine tune those lacrosse sticks.

Scorers:
Elliot May – 6
David Lennox – 4
Dan Martin – 4
Gary Wood – 1

Man of the Match – Pete Smith

For his heroics facing-off in his first competitive game with a very high success rate.
